Limia Melanogaster

Limia Melanogaster

Although very comparable in numerous respects to L. caudofasciata, this species has a body colour tending towards brown, or brownish olive green. It is marked with dark vertical bars on the rear half of the body. The number of bars might differ from five to eight, but usually there are about six.

The dorsal fin of the male is pale yellow marked with two dark bands - one on the margin, the other on the base. This fin on the female is clear, and only carries the dark base marking. The caudal fin of the male is deep orange with a dark band.

Adult females attain a length of about 2.5 inch and males about 2 inch.
